We are often asked by customers:
‘When should I replace my staircase’
A staircase is an essential part of any home, office, or building.
But like anything else, it ages over time, and can become a hazard or blight to keep it standing.
Eventually, it comes time to replace your old staircase and replace it with something brand new.
So when you should replace a staircase?
This blog will outline the signs you should look out for when deciding whether or not your staircase needs repaired or replaced.

Staircases can see a lot of foot traffic. While many are designed to last, that doesn’t mean they will always stay in perfect condition.
With so many people moving up and down, you can expect to see some wear and tear over time.
When Should You Replace A Staircase
Consider the Treads
One of the first signs that a staircase is wearing away are the treads—if they’re loose, missing, or simply worn out, that tends to mean they’re on their last leg.
The presence of splinters should also be viewed with caution.
Cracked threads can lead to worse damage, and fast, as the staircase becomes vulnerable to outside pressures.
Review the Under-structure
If your staircase is visibly in good shape up above, then the next visit you should pay is down below.
A stair’s under-structure carries the staircase and can is often the first place where foundational issues arise.
This largely comes from either storm damage, or the result of time—a house can shift over the year and move the staircase.
If you notice that the under-structure is uneasy, or broken, then it’s time for a replacement.
Look for Detached Parts
Finally, this is the most obvious sign out there that it’s time to replace your old staircase: when the handrail or fitting post comes off! If either of these parts are loosened, they will likely come off in the very near future, and thereby further destabilizing an already-defunct staircase.
